From Giglio Porto, this mini-cruise takes you to the ancient ruins of the Villa Romana on Giannutri, which is located near the idyllic Cala Maestra and not far from the ferry landing stage.
Visiting the villa in the company of an official guide of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park – the villa can only be visited with a guide – allows you to immerse yourself in the history of this villa and enjoy the breathtaking views of the sea.
After visiting the villa, you will still have enough time for a long break by the sea with the opportunity to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.
“A dive into the blue…” After arriving in Giannutri, this day trip is all about hiking and snorkelling.
Together with experienced snorkelling instructors from the “Le Orme” team (tourism and environmental guides who have been working throughout Tuscany and northern Lazio since 2000), you will dive into the island’s most beautiful bays to discover the unique underwater world of old shipwrecks in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
Between snorkelling excursions, you can follow the hiking trails – which are only accessible with a guide – in unspoilt nature and surrounded by the scent of the Mediterranean maquis to the southern tip of the island Capel Rosso or to the bay Cala Volo di Notte.
Meeting point at the Proloco information office, Via Cardinale Oreglia, 4 in Giglio Porto
The archaeological site of Villa Romana on the island of Giannutri is located near the bay of Cala Maestra, not far from the ferry terminal.
It was built in the 2nd century AD by the ancient senatorial family of the Domizi-Enobarbi directly by the sea and is part of several villas built by the family on the Monte Argentario and the island of Giglio. The villa on Giannutri was not only the residence of the family, but also an important trading port.
The villa is now under the protection of the Sovrintendenza and is managed by the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. It can only be visited in the company of an official guide from the park and a maximum of 75 people per day are permitted.
