Which are the ports on Giglio?
Giglio Porto is the only port on the island of Giglio. It is situated on the east coast, opposite Monte Argentario. From Giglio Porto a paved road connects the two other towns Giglio Castello and Giglio Campese and the two beaches of Arenella and Cannelle.
How much does it cost to take a ferry to the Giglio?
Ticket prices vary by operator, route and season. In general, weekends, bank holidays and the peak season are the most expensive. In addition to the ferry company’s fares, there are island landing fees.
Children between the ages of 4 and 12 are entitled to a discount on adult fares on all ferry companies. However, they must be accompanied by an adult. There is no discount for infants under the age of 4.
Fare for one person: approx. 14-16 EUR.
Ticket for a car: approx. 45-60 EUR.
We recommend that you always compare the fares of the two ferry companies as there can be significant differences.
Can I buy a ticket with one ferry company and use it with another?
It is not possible to use a ticket from one company to travel on the other. However, if you arrive too early or too late, you can ask your ferry company (both Maregiglio and Tormar) to bring the crossing forward or back, depending on availability.
Can I bring pets on ferries to Giglio?
Pets are allowed on the outside decks of the vessel or in the appropriate areas, where available. Pets are not required to pay for a ferry ticket. Dogs must be kept on a lead (and muzzled if required by law) or carried in an appropriate carrier. More information:
Can there be any changes to the ferry times?
We always advise you to check ferry times online before departure. Giglioinfo is not responsible for timetable changes or cancellations. However, the ferry is rarely cancelled and only in the event of strong northerly winds.
Do I need a permit to take my car to the island of Giglio?
For most of the year, non-residents can also bring their cars or motorbikes to Giglio Island without any permit. Only during the middle three weeks of August is there a restriction on the entry of vehicles: you must stay on the island for at least 4 nights and fill in a self-certification form. Can I take my car to the island of Giannutri?
There are no roads on the island of Giannutri, so you can’t take your car. In Porto S. Stefano there are long term car parks where you can leave your car.
Can I book the car without knowing the licence plate number?
You do not need a licence plate number for the ferries to/from the island of Giglio. If you do not know the registration number of the vehicle you will be using to reach the island, you can simply enter AA000AA in the registration field. It is important that you enter the correct length of the vehicle as prices are based on the size (see next question).
What do I do if I don't yet know the model of the car?
The cost of crossing to Giglio with your own car depends on the length of the vehicle. All you need to do is enter the model of your car. If you do not know which car you will be travelling with, please enter a vehicle of similar length (better slightly longer).
Is it advisable to book tickets in advance?
For the car ferry, it is always advisable to book in advance, especially in the high season from mid-June to August, on weekends and public holidays, and at Easter. There are usually no problems with tickets for people, except for the return trip from Giglio to Porto Santo Stefano on Sunday afternoons. You can also avoid long queues at the ticket office by buying your tickets online.
